Industry News Industry 4.0 generates excitement at Aeromart Montréal With Montréal emerging as a global networking platform for organizations in the aerospace industry, the 5th Aeromart Montréal exceeded critical mass with 1,300 participants representing 800 companies from 28 countries, including growth markets in the US, Asia, India, Africa and Europe. Part of a series of aerospace conferences produced internationally by BCI Aerospace, the 3-day event was a hybrid of informational sessions and business-to-business meetings connecting manufacturers, suppliers, contractors and service providers. Industry News Supply chain excellence: Digitalization is a long way off for aerospace SMEs 150 people attended the fourth “Supply Chain Excellence” forum that was held in Gilching on March 9, 2017. It was certainly the right location – close to the German Aerospace Center and the special operations airport in Oberpfaffenhofen. The forum was organized by bavAIRia e.V., which joined together with other regional aviation associations and clusters, the German Aerospace Industries Association, partners from industry, and SPACE Deutschland to form the Initiative Supply Chain Excellence (SCE). Industry News Industry 4.0: An evolution, not a revolution “Get IoTized” – this was not the official motto of the conference held by the Competence Center Aerospace (CCA) in Kassel, Germany, on February 28, 2017, but it appeared to be the leitmotif of all the presentations at the event. This began as early as the welcome by German Economics Minister Brigitte Zypries, who is, among other things, a strong advocate for the expansion of broadband networks particularly in industrial parks in rural areas of the country to create a technical foundation there for Industry 4.0 and the Internet of Things. SCM Insights Digitalization of the aerospace supply chain – the dream and the reality 70 percent of respondents in a new study on the digitalization of the aerospace supply chain say they are convinced that digitalization can be advanced only if all parties use the same system. But the reality proves to be different. More than 80 percent of the respondents confirm having to use multiple portals to communicate with customers – and this, even though approximately 90 percent of the respondents were convinced that the multitude of different portals undermined the positive effects of digitalization.The continued digitalization of the supply chain across all levels – as the study also clearly found – is viewed as being one of the most important measures for mastering the future challenges in the aerospace industry.
